I often see folks walking down 13th Street, often quite a number of blocks from the Tivoli Giant. And I always wonder, how far they are walking with groceries. I spotted these two folks near Fairmont but they had a manageable one bag each. I’ve seen folks loaded down with multiple bags on each hand. I have to be honest, as mentioned before, I’ve been considering selling my car. But one of the reasons I haven’t is because I don’t know how I’d go grocery shopping. So how far is too far to shlep grocery bags from the store?

The following message was forwarded by Councilman Graham:

Dear Georgia Avenue constituents,

In response to issues raised by the community, Central Union Mission has requested a delay of its special exception hearing with BZA, scheduled for next Tuesday 2/19, in order to consider “significant changes to the scope and use” of the 170-bed men’s homeless shelter it had planned for the 3500 block of Georgia Avenue.  While the community was fully-prepared for the hearing with countless letters, petitions, testimony and research, it agrees that the Mission needs to re-think its plan, which was neither neighborhood-compatible nor effective for transitioning people out of homelessness.  The residents and businesses of Georgia Avenue also extend a special ‘thank you’ to Councilmember Jim Graham for his efforts on this matter.  Residents should not attend the hearing on 2/19 as it will be rescheduled for sometime in the fall of 2008.

Sincerely,

Georgia Avenue Redevelopment Defense Squad (GARDS)”

So is this good news or bad news?

The unwanted car market is Bullish. I’m advising sell. I laughed at the $50 offers, and was pretty excited at the $100 offers, but $125 – it is not going to get any better than that. Can it? Tell me I’m going to see a $150 offer. If it reaches $200 we are definitely heading towards a recession. So wait, does that mean the market is Bearish or Bullish? I think I’m sticking with Bullish.  No Bearish.

I’ve been skewered in the past after voicing my objection to lawn parking but I guess I’m a glutton for punishment. I still think it is terrible. And if you have a nice Mercedes, I’d imagine you can have a proper driveway. So remind me again, why is it alright for people to park cars on their lawns? After the jump check out a photo of the type/condition of car I normally see parked on lawns. (more…)

Check out the turret. Or the tower. Or whatever that is called in the back. That is awesome.

I’ve shown this sculpture in the past but it was such a beautiful day, I had to share it with you again.
