[Ed. note: This entry submitted about 6 photos or so but I’m afraid I can only post the first one, hopefully you can get the gist of this great entry from this picture. Winner announced Feb.22nd!]

“Home is my favorite place in the city. More specifically, the
Underdog Corner is my favorite place at home. It’s humorous, leafy
and bright. It just makes me happy.[Entry continues after the jump.] (more…)

Thanks to a commenter from the forum section alerting me to this development as posted on the North Columbia Heights Civic Association Web site. Apparently, this is the design of 3DG. My first reaction is ‘Awesome!’ because obviously the old Bi-Rite is in pretty beat shape. But now that I look at the rendering a little longer, what the hell is that black wall? It seems a little weird, no? So what do you think of the design?

Thanks to a reader for sending in this update about Marvin’s expansion from the ANC1B Meeting:

“The Commission heard about the adjoining space on 14th Street being acquired by the owner of Marvin. The owner wishes to have a low-key wine, and hors d’oeuvres with a garden. It will have the same architecture as Marvin, and the garden will be on the ground floor with a masonry wall or wood fence. Commissioner Spalding moved that the Commission support the new license. Commissioner Nadeau seconded the motion. The motion was adopted 10-0.”

Personally, I’m super psyched about the garden.

I think I may have inadvertently stumbled upon a grand dentistry conspiracy.  As one with dental insurance I take full advantage of it and religiously go to 6 month cleanings.  So on my last cleaning I was told to buy an electric toothbrush.  So like a good kid, I ran from the dentist and got your standard electric toothbrush.  It has treated me well, or so I thought.  All of a sudden one of my teeth got super sensitive.  I thought I was going to need a root canal or something.  So I go to the dentist Monday and explain the problem. He asks me after poking around for like 10 seconds, ‘am I using an electric toothbrush’?  Yes, of course I reply.  Well he says to me, ‘oh, you’re brushing too hard and have removed some enamel and exposed some pores that have lots of nerves’ or something like that.  And I’m like, WTF?  You are the one who told me to get an electric toothbrush!  What the hell sort of catch 22 is this?  By the by, his resolution was to gently glide the electric toothbrush and use sensodyne.  This is kind f’d up, no? I’m fairly certain it is a conspiracy among the American Dental Association, Electric Toothbrush Manufacturers of America, and Sensodyne…

I’m guessing that stop sign isn’t exactly street legal, but I won’t give up the address, so no worries. I like it though. It’s saying stop and sit for a while in this nice velvet chair, the world will wait.

This beaut is from 16th Street Heights. If you’ve never been to 16th Street Heights there are many sick houses like this one. It kind of reminds a bit of Cleveland Park but I’m guessing these homes may be a bit more reasonably priced. Of course, you don’t have the metro or many restaurants but just speaking of the homes they were amazing. Another thing I noticed, actually in contrast to Cleveland Park, was that there was a great amount of diversity, which was nice to see. I’m not hating on Cleveland Park, actually I like the neighborhood very much, I’m just observing.

So I’ve often noticed that developers often scoop up the corner rowhouses when they go for sale. I can see the appeal would be more windows, a bigger yard, and possibly less noise due to one less neighbor. So a simple question: what is the premium for owning a corner rowhouse? Is it like $50k more than the house to its left? $75k more?

Many of its residents have cutting edge fashion sense. Not that I know much about fashion but these arm warmers seem pretty dope sky to me.

This one almost eluded me as it blends in nicely with the mulch. I don’t know, this one damn happy lawn sculpture that is pretty tough to look at without smiling yourself.
