I swelled with pride when I saw a pair of local Petworthians in the Express Wedding Giveaway Contest. We must support our cousins! You can vote for Amena and Chris here. Good luck and congratulations!

Not simply because it is new but because the ambiance, food and wine are all fantastic! The servers were extremely nice and the hosts were attentive, keeping you updated and reassuring you that they hadn’t forgotten about you. Here are the earlier photos I took inside Cork, located at 1720 14th Street, NW. I had about a half an hour wait before I got a table Friday night, but that is a half hour well worth waiting. Particularly when you can wait sipping some delicious wine. Despite my having taken a wine course in college I really don’t know much about wine (except I remember most of the corks are from Portugal…) But as I was waiting I had a terrific Pinot Noir. Now I can’t tell you that the wine had this type of body and that type of nose blah blah blah, what I can tell you is that it tasted freaking good. What better way to judge wine? You can also get the wine tasters where they bring you three selections.
I should add that the space is really nice as well. In addition to the front room and bar there is a back room and a loft area. Very open and comfortable. And the food was terrific as well. Pictured above is some goat cheese and tomato that absolutely rocked. After the jump check out the duck, a sweet cheese platter (both equally delicious) and a really cool bicycle someone parked out front. (more…)
Holy canoli! I think this would be phenomenal. Of course I love hiking but still an REI would be fantastic, no? A reader writes:
“I recently came across news on the Columbia Heights News website that REI is considering a location at the new DCUSA in Columbia Heights. This would be a great addition as the outdoor coop is a solid company known for, besides quality outdoor gear, being an all around good and ethical company – the kind of retail neighbor that would be awesome for the neighborhood.
It would be helpful for those interested to be in touch with all the usual suspects when dealing with DCUA (Jim Graham and GridProperties – [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]), but particularly with REI.
In response to my email to Grip Properties in support of the REI, I was told the following:
Thanks for your e-mail. It would be most helpful if you and your friends and colleagues would contact REI directly. They are new to urban markets and need to hear directly from their potential customers.
After a few email exchanges with REI, I was informed that the best way to get in touch with them was through this link: http://www.rei.com/shared/help
I think this would be a huge development for the community. The Columbia Heights News website mentioned they were in direct competition with Ross Dress For Less (you know, the store very similar to the Marshals already moving into DCUSA) – so either way its probably a good thing if community members made their preferences known.”

Has it come to this? I suppose it is better than this. But this is a rogue garbage can, yeah? Do you think the city empties it?

I’m cool with them seeing me, I just hope they don’t judge me…

Function and beauty. These are awesome. Are these not the best you’ve ever seen?
Remember Lincoln’s Cottage open to public starting tomorrow (call to make reservations). Check out the virtual tour here. Thanks to a reader for the heads up.

These remind me of my Summers in Portugal.
