I was at the wiener dog races at the wharf last weekend. This man and I both were there solo and talked to an older couple while we waited for the races to start. He stood next to me for the first 8 heats cheering for the dog with the best name and commenting to me about the dogs. He said Steve would be the best name to cheer for. (more…)

I live along Harvard St NW in Columbia Heights and for weeks now, day after day all we hear are the deafening sounds of large dump trucks, cement trucks, and garbage trucks roaring up the street, all of which are coming from the Wardman Park redevelopment in Woodley Park. “Dear PoPville,
My problem is figuring out how to hang, safely, window boxes on a brick apartment building that the landlord doesn’t allow drilling holes. Understand an owner not wanting amateurs making permanent changes to the building.
But it would be really great to be able to inexpensively grow my own greens, peas, herbs, etc. And it is possible to grow an urban abundance amazing in a small space with just a little sunshine, “Micro gardening,”
