Heads Up for Rock n Roll Marathon Road Closures on Saturday

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has provided the following information about scheduled street closures for the 2013 Rock N Roll USA Marathon and Half Marathon that will be held in the District of Columbia on Saturday, March 16, 2013.

In order to facilitate this event there will be no vehicular traffic allowed along the routes of the races. However, there will be bump routes that will allow vehicles to cross when runners are not present. The races are scheduled to begin at approximately 7:25 a.m.; however some street closures will begin as early as 12:00 a.m. around the start and finish line. All streets affected by this event are expected to be reopened as early as 9:30 a.m., and no later than 2:00 p.m.

Motorists should expect delays during the races. Citizens who have issues that need resolution or if there are any questions regarding traffic access points during the races are advised to please call 202-727-9099.

The marathons will form at Constitution Avenue, NW, just east of 14th Street, NW.

Metrorail will open two hours early — at 5 a.m. — on Saturday, March 16, for the benefit of customers traveling to the SunTrust Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon & CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon. The additional service is funded by the event sponsors.”

Metrobus customers traveling in the District this Saturday on any of three dozen bus routes are advised to allow extra travel time and to expect detours and delays as a result of this year’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon & Half Marathon.

The race is scheduled to take place Saturday, March 16, 2013, with street closures starting around 6:30 a.m. and continuing through mid-afternoon.

The event will have a significant impact on the following Metrobus routes: 32, 34, 36, 38B, 42, 52, 54, 64, 70, 74, 80, 90, 92, 96, A42, A46, A48, B2, D4, D6, D8, G2, G8, H2, H4, L2, M6, N6, P6, S2, S4, U2, U6, V8, X2 and X8.

Bus customers are encouraged to transfer from Metrobus to Metrorail at the first available station. During the event, bus customers can request a special transfer from their bus operator that allows them to transfer to the rail system at no additional charge.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
