Metro weekend track work February 1-3

The ongoing effort to rebuild and upgrade the Metrorail system to provide safer and more reliable service will continue over the weekend of February 1-3 on the Red, Orange and Blue lines. The work will begin at 10 p.m. Friday and continue through system closing on Sunday.

There is no scheduled work this weekend on the Green or Yellow lines until 10 p.m. Sunday night.

RED LINE
• Red Line trains will single track between Farragut North and Judiciary Square to allow for ceiling tile replacement, structural repairs, and installation of new emergency call boxes.
• Red Line trains between Shady Grove and Glenmont will operate every 20 minutes throughout the weekend.
• Between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, additional trains will operate in two segments: between Shady Grove and Farragut North approximately every 10 minutes, and between Glenmont and Judiciary Square approximately every 10 minutes.
• Customers traveling through the work zone should add 10 to 15 minutes to their travel time.

ORANGE LINE
• Free shuttle buses will replace Orange Line trains between Federal Center SW and Cheverly to allow for station dome repairs, platform reconstruction, drain cleaning an drepair, rail fastener renewal and electrical work. In addition, Orange Line trains will single track between East Falls Church and West Falls Church for testing associated with the Silver Line extension.
• Six stations will be closed: Capitol South, Eastern Market, Potomac Ave, Stadium-Armory, Minnesota Ave and Deanwood.
• Orange Line trains will operate in two segments throughout the weekend: between Vienna and Federal Center SW every 15 minutes, and between New Carrollton and Cheverly every 15 minutes.
• Shuttle bus service will operate on two routes: Local buses will operate between Federal Center SW and Cheverly stopping at all intermediate stations. Express buses will operate between Federal Center SW and Cheverly with no intermediate stops. Customers using express buses to travel through the work zone should add 20 minutes to their travel time; customers using local buses should add up to an hour.
• Note: To allow for bus connections, the last train of the night from New Carrollton to Cheverly will depart 50 minutes earlier than normal — at 1:46 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, and at 10:46 p.m. on Sunday night.

BLUE LINE
• Free shuttle buses will replace Blue Line trains between Federal Center SW and Benning Road to allow for station dome repairs, platform reconstruction, drain cleaning and repair, rail fastener renewal and electrical work.
• Four stations will be closed: Capitol South, Eastern Market, Potomac Ave and Stadium-Armory.
• Shuttle buses will operate between Federal Center SW and Benning Road stopping at all intermediate stations. Customers using shuttle buses to travel through the work zone should add up to 45 minutes to their travel time.
• Note: To allow for bus connections, the last train of the night from Largo Town Center to Benning Road will depart 25 minutes earlier than normal — at 1:59 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, and at 10:59 p.m. on Sunday night.

GREEN/YELLOW LINES (LATE SUNDAY NIGHT ONLY)
• On Sunday night, from 10 p.m. until closing, Green and Yellow line trains will single track between L’Enfant Plaza and Mount Vernon Square to allow for camera installation and ceiling tile replacement. Customers should allow about 10 minutes of additional travel time.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
