From WMATA:

The massive effort to rebuild Metrorail will continue over the holiday weekend of May 25-28 on the Red and Green lines. The work will begin at 10 p.m. Friday and continue through system closing on Monday (Memorial Day).

Green Line: Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, May 25, and continuing through system closing on Monday, May 28, buses will replace Green Line trains between Greenbelt and Fort Totten to allow for installation of new “Guarded #8” switches, fulfilling an NTSB recommendation. Customers using shuttle bus service should allow extra travel time. Yellow Line trains will operate between Huntington and Mount Vernon Square only. Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mount Vernon Square should use Green Line trains to complete their trip; Green Line trains will operate normally between Fort Totten and Branch Avenue.

Red Line: Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, May 25, and continuing through system closing on Monday, May 28, trains will single track between Forest Glen and Takoma to allow for platform reconstruction and fiber optic cable installation. Red Line trains will operate every 20 minutes between Glenmont and Shady Grove throughout the weekend. Customers should allow 10 minutes of additional travel time. Between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., additional trains will operate between Shady Grove and New York Avenue stations, providing service every 10 minutes.

There is no work scheduled this weekend on the Blue, Orange or Yellow lines, except for the minor service adjustment to the Yellow Line noted above.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
