“The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA, or Metro)
and the District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) have
teamed up to examine ways of improving transit service on the S1, S2,
and S4 routes between Silver Spring and Downtown DC. A major part of
this effort is determining the opinions of people who ride the 16th
Street buses. To that end, a public meeting will be held on July 15
to 1) identify issues related to the 16th Street Line, 2) listen to
comments and suggestions about ways to make improvements, and 3)
discuss the preliminary results of the rider survey.
The date, time, and location of the public meeting are: Tuesday, July
15, 2008 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at St Stephen and the Incarnation
Episcopal Church, 16th and Newton Streets NW. All are invited, no
RSVP is required, and we encourage you to pass this information along
to members of your community who may be interested in the study. Continues after jump.
The format of the public meeting will be as follows: an open house
will take place from 6:30 to 7:00, during which participants can
review project materials and speak individually with members of the
study team. After that will be a brief presentation to inform
participants about the study and what will be taking place at the
meeting. Following the presentation will be a breakout session where
participants will split up into smaller groups at tables to discuss
challenges facing the 16th Street Line and potential solutions. A
member of the study team will be present at each table to facilitate
the discussion. And finally, participants will report back to the
larger group what was discussed at their table.
In the two months following the public meeting, the study team will
conduct a technical analysis of the 16th Street Line. The analysis,
combined with what was learned at the public meeting, will be the two
main parts comprising a set of recommendations of ways to improve
transit service along the line. The recommendations will be presented
at the second public meeting, which will likely take place in
September 2008.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
