From a press release:
“Owner and visionary Jeanine Prime celebrates the five-year anniversary of Cane, the culinary tribute to her homeland, Trinidad and Tobago. In partnership with CORE architecture + design, Cane’s redesign takes on a refreshed and enhanced atmosphere while maintaining its cozy and communal space. The award-winning Caribbean restaurant will start taking reservations in late November through OpenTable, inviting guests to experience the revitalized space with ease. In celebration of Cane’s 5-year anniversary, guests will receive complimentary Currant Rolls with their meal between November 20 and 24.

The welcoming new space references design elements and materials traditionally found in Trinidadian homes including macrame, rattan cane webbing, and vintage copper art work. Woven macrame wall hangings line the walls, and cane rattan partitions, nodding to the restaurant’s namesake, create cozy booth seating and hark back to classic Trinidadian furniture design. The reimagined bar area features new counter height two-top booths, creating a comfortable space for diners to enjoy Cane’s staple and new cocktails. Bay window seating facing H St. features a custom copper table designed to patina over time. A whimsical bathroom now displays custom wallpaper featuring the Scarlet Ibis, Trinidad’s national bird.
In addition to the newly redesigned space, guests can enjoy new menu items including Dhalpuri Roti for lunch. New dinner additions include Hakka-Spiced Pork Ribs, served with garlic-culantro sauce and pickled peppers with a side of coconut rice, Pelau, a rice dish viewed by Trinidadians as the ultimate comfort food, and Currant Rolls filled with sweet and lightly spiced currants. New cocktails include the Trinidadian Sour with Angostura bitters, almond orgeat, Rowan’s Creek Bourbon, honey, and citrus and the Cane Mai-Tai made with pineapple tea syrup, almond orgeat, El Dorado 5 year, cognac, triple sec and lime. Another new addition, the 20th Century, showcases Black-owned spirits from the African diaspora featuring Bayab Orange & Marula South African Gin, Tempus Fugit Creme de Cacao, Tempus Fugit Kina Vermouth and lemon. Guests will soon be able to make reservations on OpenTable for lunch and dinner.”
