“Dear PoPville,
Please share this news. It is an important announcement that could improve accessible cab service in DC from nonexistent to perhaps something? People need to know about it and try it out.”
From DFHV:
The Department of For-Hire Vehicles (DFHV) is thrilled to announce the launch of our new Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) pilot program. This initiative aims to further improve accessibility and convenience for passengers who require wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs).
Through this pilot program, we are providing incentives to wheelchair-accessible vehicle drivers to be available at all hours of the day. To make it easier to find a WAV, we have established a dedicated hotline.
Simply dial 202-977-4WAV, and you will be connected to our automated system.
This system will use your location to provide you with information on the closest available WAV. You will then have the option to connect directly with the taxi company to arrange for a pickup. These vehicles are equipped with the necessary features to ensure a comfortable and seamless journey.
At DFHV, we believe that everyone should have equal access to transportation services. Whether it’s commuting to work, running errands, or simply enjoying the city, accessibility should never be a barrier. With the new hotline, we are striving to ensure that all members of our community can travel safely, comfortably, and independently.”
