“Dear PoPville,
Writing in with a PSA about the coffee date predator man.
On 12/24/2023, I was walking north on Connecticut Ave in Dupont, just having left the farmers’ market. A man waved to me so I took out my AirPods to give directions or whatever. He asked “oh,
is this the end of the Dupont Farmer’s Market ?” And I pointed behind me saying “yes, it’s those tents there and goes about a block.” He says “I just moved here from NYC, I’m used to bigger markets.” I said “it’s Christmas, half the vendors aren’t here.” Then he asks “is there a dolcezza nearby? Or a coffee shop? You seem like a local expert, I’m new here.” And I point and say “there’s a dolcezza righ there.” That’s when I put it together, put my AirPods back in and kept walking. He tried to follow up more, not sure what he said. He didn’t follow me, thank god.
Navy colored puffer jacket, short black hair, dark brown eyes, a bit of a pot belly.
The commonality being giving me a “compliment” (earlier he had told a woman she seems like a pizza connoisseur), saying he’s from NYC, and again asking about coffee.”
and
“I wanted to alert you that the coffee date predator is back in action.
I don’t want to describe the exact situation too much for safety reasons but I was approached in Dupont by a man about 5’7′-5’10, greying dark hair, early 40’s, medium build, and wearing a dark blue puffer jacket. He very casually approached me asking where he could get coffee from and telling me he was from NY and he wanted a local coffee shop and asking whether I was local.
Thanks to others for speaking up and your posts, I quickly realized who he was and continued on my way without engaging too much. The streets are a bit quieter in certain areas right now and I think he’s taking advantage of it.”
