“The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the District of Columbia until 9 PM this evening. Damaging wind gusts and large hail are the primary threats along with the possibility of a brief tornado.
Precautionary / Preparedness Actions:
– Check the forecast before venturing out. Driving could become dangerous due to flash flooding.
– Never drive through standing water or flooded roadways. You risk your life and the lives of first responders. Turn around, don’t drown saves lives.
– Secure loose objects outside your home (for example: patio furniture, grills, and garbage cans).
– Clean out your gutters so water can move away from your home.
– Keep your cell phones charged in case you lose power.”
