“Robbery at Gun Point, outside of Union Market – 1:00 PM on a sunny Sunday.”

via google maps

“Dear PoPville,

My close friends and several family members were all walking from my apt on H ST NE, north towards Union Market, to cap off a great weekend of celebrating my doctoral graduation. Sadly, as we were about to cross Florida Ave, these 2 or 3 teens with a gun robbed two in my large group of their belongings. This is ridiculous to say the least that these teens did it in broad daylight, in front of children and several homeowners just enjoying their front lawn. 1:00 PM on a sunny Sunday.

I am writing in hopes of spreading more awareness that this could happen literally anywhere and anytime, and to always look over your shoulder even if you are in a large group.

Additionally, it took about 10 minutes until I finally spoke to an operator, there were no police cruisers in sight, so they got away. We were able to make a report and spoke with a detective on the case. I am just so sad and traumatized that this happened to us and and just glad no one got hurt.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
