“We’re excited to officially announce the roster of chefs and concepts that will soon be coming to The Square.

Located downtown at 1875 I St NW, The Square is a chef-driven food market destination where cuisine, culture and community are woven together. Spearheaded by Richie Brandenburg and Rubén Garcia, The Square is slated to open in June 2023 within International Square – a 1.1 million square-foot complex occupying nearly a full city block in the heart of Washington, D.C.

Cashion’s Rendezvous [Ann Cashion, John Fulchino] – Oysters, crab cakes, and strong drinks. The Eat Place and Half Shell legacy lives on in Ann Cashion and John Fulchino’s latest venture.

Mahal Afro-Filipino BBQ [Jerome Grant] – Jerome Grant, the famed chef behind the Smithsonian’s Sweet Home Café, highlights the flavors of his heritage along with a rotating counter experience at his new spot for Filipino BBQ, bites, and cocktails.

Flora Pizzeria

[Tom Wellings and Camila Arango] – Premium pizzas whole and by-the-slice, apps, salads, and drinks. Pluma’s Tom Wellings and Camila Arango elevate their takeout sensation into a proper parlor.

Yaocho [John Mooney] – Fried chicken, deep-sea snapper, superfood juices, sweets, and libations. Bidwell Chef John Mooney brings Polynesian flavors to the mainland.

Jamón Jamón [Rubén García] – Hand-cut jamón Iberico, cheeses, croquetas, and charcuterie. Experience iconic Spanish ingredients cut by the hand of chef Rubén García.

Brasa [Rubén García] – Grilled sausages and veggies, pan con tomate — and allioli, of course. Chef Rubén García offers Spanish street-food hot off the open-flame.

Junge’s [Rubén García and Richie Brandenburg] – Churros and soft serve, sweet and simple. Street food treats inspired by the heritage of The Square visionaries Richie and Rubén.

Taqueria Xochi [Teresa Padilla and Geraldine Mendoza] – The brainchild of José Andrés Group vets Teresa Padilla and Geraldine Mendoza, Taqueria Xochi–named after the ruins of Xochitecatl in Central Mexico–will serve up authentic dishes such as birria, tacos guisados, and street tacos alongside margaritas and palomas (to name a few).

Cebicheria Chalaca [Carlos Delgado] – Acclaimed Chef Carlos Delgado’s very own Cebicheria. An homage to his hometown of Lima, featuring Peruvian cuisine alongside a full cocktail program from Glendon Hartley (formerly of Service Bar).

KIYOMI Sushi by Uchi [Chef Masaaki Uchino] – Classic sushi alongside creative touches featuring caviar, wagyu and truffles. Chef Masaaki “Uchi” Uchino steps out of the Nakazawa kitchen to roll out a more casual restaurant all his own.

Shoals Market – Shoals Market is a celebration of D.C.’s uniquely global, social dining scene. As the retail hub of The Square, guests will have exclusive access to limited allocation spirits, artisanal products and rare culinary finds that are either crafted or inspired by the food market’s chef partners.
