Convention Center Streetscape Construction Activity Update

From Events DC:

“This message provides an update regarding the streetscape construction activity underway through October 2023 on the exterior of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. This construction includes removal of existing trees, pavers and base material where the new planters will be installed. New trees will be planted during the spring planting season. In the interest of public safety during this process, bicycle racks are cordoning off the work area which includes the curb lane and a portion of the sidewalk, while allowing for pedestrian access.

Construction work on N Street (between 7th and 9th Streets, NW) will conclude by the end of March 2023.

The next phase of the work will begin February 17 through the end of May 2023 on the 1200 block of 9th Street (between M and N Streets, NW). The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has issued a permit to the contractor for temporary occupancy of the bike lane in this area. Bicycle rack barriers will be put in place on February 16.

Construction on this portion of 9th Street will be conducted in two phases:

Phase one from the corner of 9th and N Streets to mid-block outside Unconventional Diner; and
Phase two from mid-block outside Unconventional Diner to the corner of 9th and M Streets.

The anticipated schedule for the remainder of the work (by area, weather permitting and barring unforeseen circumstances) is as follows:

9th Street (between L and M Streets): end of March – end of June
7th Street (between L and M Streets): end of April – end of July
7th Street (between L Street and Mt. Vernon Place): beginning of July – end of September
9th Street (between L and Mt. Vernon Place): end of July – end of October

Throughout the construction and to the extent possible, at least half of the sidewalk in each affected area will remain available for pedestrian access. There may be brief temporary intermittent sidewalk closures for public safety reasons.

Construction schedule dates are estimated. Updates and/or changes to the schedule will be provided as additional details become available.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

We’re about a month out from summer. That means you’ve still got time for spring cleaning!

Lexi Grant, an operations manager at Well-Paid Maids, shared her go-to spring cleaning tips with WTOP News. Step one? Declutter. Get rid of items you don’t use, find space for items that need a home and organize those areas.

Then, it’s time to dust. Lexi starts with high-touch surface areas (think: refrigerator, dishwasher, counters, microwave). One area she sees often neglected is the bedroom — and it makes sense. Heavy furniture is difficult to move around, but it’s important to really get in there so dust doesn’t affect your sleep.
