The Wharf responded at 8:45pm:
“We apologize for the poor phrasing of our recent mask signs.
Health and safety are The Wharf’s top priorities. The intention was to discourage Halloween masks for the safety of all residents and visitors. The signs have been removed.”
Madeline replied:
“Thank you The Wharf DC for quickly responding, taking responsibility, and removing the signage. As an immunocompromised resident, I appreciate your swift action on this.
I am hopeful that other businesses can learn from both the Wharf’s recklessness in reposting this given the moment we’re in as well as the Wharf’s immediate apology and removal of the sign.
As we head into winter and in light of the significant oversight that spurred this dialogue, an explicit statement from The Wharf DC that expressly supports & encourages the use of masks–particularly at crowded events/when community covid levels increase–is merited & welcome.”
