“Thirsty Crow Unveils New East Asian Bites Menu”

From an email:

“Guests can expect affordable menu items like Shrimp Chips ($3) and Spiced Peanuts ($5) made with anchovy, chili and lime leaf along with unique offerings like Sai Krok Isaan ($13), a Northern Thai dish which Chef James Wozniak first discovered on a trip to Bangkok 12 years ago; the Thirsty Crow iteration is made with house-made sour sausages stuffed with ground pork, sweet rice, garlic, and lemongrass. Other dishes include Char Siu Wings ($14), grilled and basted chicken wings prepared in a classic Cantonese marinade which is used traditionally used to make barbecue pork, and Beef Rendang Croquetas, a breaded and fried beef rendang and potato mixture served with a simple aioli of nutmeg and lemon.

See the full menu here.

Larger, sharable options are also on offer such as the Gua Bao Platter ($24 and serves two people) featuring classic steamed buns served with braised pork belly, hoisin sauce, pickled serrano chilis, sambal oelek, five spice peanuts and cucumber. More filling rice and noodle-based dishes are available like the Chef’s Bowl ($15) which features a select combination of Chef James Wozniuk’s favorite things to eat – beef rendang, peanuts, shallots, cucumber, chili crumble, Malaysian condiment nuoc cham, and jasmine rice, and Dan Dan Mian ($15) a Chinese Sichuan dish made with fresh wheat noodles tossed in a rich spicy sesame sauce, topped with seasoned pork, sour mustard greens, peanut, yu choy and sesame seeds.

The bar’s 24 draft lines features a range of local and American beers from breweries such as Right Proper, Aslin, Union Craft, DC Brau, Hellbender and Manor Hill, as well as ciders and wines on tap, all within a $5 to $10 range.

Thirsty Crow is located underneath Makan at 3400 11th Street, NW. Open Monday to Thursday from 5pm to midnight, Friday to Saturday from 5pm to 2am, and Sunday from 12pm to 10pm, the neighborhood sports bar features happy hour specials Monday through Saturday from 5pm to 7pm and all day on Sunday. Rotating chef pop-ups are hosted on Monday nights, along with viewings of Monday night football. Tuesdays are dedicated to trivia nights and Fridays, music with DJ Eskimo.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
