415 7th Street, NW previously home to Merzi

From a press release:

“Ashok Bajaj of Knightsbridge Restaurant Group is pleased to announce the new Bindaas Bowls & Rolls, carryout concept will open Thursday, April 7, 2022, at 415 7th Street, NW. This 35-seat “to-go” focused sister restaurant will have popular dishes found at the original Bindaas location in Cleveland Park at 3309 Connecticut Avenue, 20008, and the downtown oasis at The Shops at 2000 PENN, 2000 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, 20006, along with dishes exclusive to this grab and go location. Diners at the new Penn Quarter eatery can anticipate classic bowls and can build their own customized meal with favorite ingredients. The first 100 people who visit the restaurant, during opening week, will have their check proceeds from the meal they order at Bindaas Bowls & Rolls go to helping José Andrés’ valiant efforts with World Central Kitchen.

WCK is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. The organization builds resilient food systems with locally led solutions. Current efforts are supporting devastated communities in Madagascar and Ukraine.

“As the pandemic retreats, spring 2022 is right for opening our first carryout concept showcasing delicious and easy to transport bowls and rolls to grab and go for a quick lunch break or to take home at the end of the business day,” states Ashok Bajaj the founder and president of Knightsbridge Restaurant Group. “Our restaurants adapted well during the pandemic and enjoyed continuous patronage with growth in the take-out sector. We are pleased that patrons crave our time honored, made from scratch Indian fare, so transitioning to create our first to-go focused location makes perfect sense as we move forward together. Now as the world is facing another enormous crisis, we want to do our part to help feed those who need a warm, cooked meal to sustain themselves in such troubling times.”

The new grab and go concept will feature bowls and rolls in popular Penn Quarter for those on the fly. Serving from a counter, patrons pick their sauces and proteins, which will have a rotating selection comprised of lamb, fish, chicken, and shrimp, as well as vegetarian options, to build their own meal. The 1,800-square-foot newcomer will serve from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. James Beard award-winning Group Executive Chef Vikram Sunderam create the menu. One can select a featured bowl or Indian roll, filled with a tempting Indian feast, for an affordable $12 to $14 price range. Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
