SEOULSPICE opening in Penn Quarter November 12th!

439 7th Street, NW

From a press release:

“Owner Eric Shin is pleased to announce the opening of his fifth SEOULSPICE location this November 12, at 439 7th Street, NW, 20004, in the heart of Penn Quarter. Known for creating healthy Korean comfort food and open daily, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., SEOULSPICE is 100% gluten-free and offers Korean-style rice bowls, kimbap burritos (Korritos), japchae noodle bowls, and salads highlighting original recipes from the Shin family, which have been passed down for generations.

Shin opened his flagship location in the NoMa neighborhood of Washington, D.C. in 2016, and expanded with additional locations in Tenleytown and College Park, Maryland, opening the following year. Their fourth location opened in the Westfield Montgomery Mall in Spring 2021. As a special treat, SEOULSPICE will give away one complimentary entrée to each in-store customer who visits the new location on Friday, November 12, between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. (while supplies last). This special giveaway excludes ordering an extra protein, “The Egg” and Avocado toppings when building one’s order from the menu and there is no purchase necessary. Customers must be physically present to order and participate in this offering.

SEOULSPICE Penn Quarter will provide another welcome option for those visiting this popular neighborhood. Situated across the street from Jaleo, this new 2,000-square-feet space was reimagined as a response to COVID. Guests can anticipate open stadium seating to give a feeling of freedom along with an updated design that displays the vibrancy of Korean food and culture.

“We are thrilled to announce the addition of a new Penn Quarter location to better serve our community,” says Eric Shin, owner of SEOULSPICE. “We love the history of the area, the proximity to museums, the National mall, metro, everything. There is also a great balance of both residential, work, and tourism. Not to mention the benefits of being in the same block as other local fast-casual brands such as Sweetgreen and Cava. We are so excited to be here!”

Diners at SEOULSPICE begin by selecting the base of their meal: a Rice Bowl (Bibimbap), perfectly cooked sushi-grade white or purple rice; Korrito, (Gimbap) the original Korean-style burrito with roasted seaweed and a choice of white or purple rice; Noodles (Japchae), gluten free and made from sweet potato starch, tossed with carrots and kale in a sesame-ginger-soy marinade, or a Salad Bowl (Sangchu) of hearty kale and iceberg lettuce. Next, one can add a protein of Beef, thin-sliced ribeye marinated in sweet and savory kalbi marinade; Chicken, which is locally raised and marinated in the kalbi marinade; Spicy Pork, thinly sliced and marinated in spicy chili or Tofu, organic with non-GMO beans, braised and caramelized in kalbi marinade. There are additional vegetable offerings to add of corn, cucumber, carrots, Korean radish, bean sprouts, kale slaw and kimchi (a family recipe), and toppers of cilantro, scallions, roasted sesame seeds, crisp garlic, sesame oil, fire power, “The” Egg, and avocado. Sauce choices include Korean Hot Sauce, Creamy Sriracha, Ginger-Carrot, and Cilantro-Lime Ranch. In everything, the emphasis is on fresh, organic, and locally available products to serve a healthy and flavorful alternative to other fast-casual dining options. Prices range from $6 to $12.99.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
