From Dupont Underground/Change.org:

“In only 1 minute, your support could light up Dupont! Please act now and sign the petition by Friday, July 16.

What: Dupont Underground is applying for the Public Art Building Communities Grant to finance the installation of a new design, the Portal, to illuminate the entrance to Dupont Underground at 19 Dupont Circle, NW.

Why:

The Portal serves to bring light to our community, further strengthen the identity of Dupont Circle as one of the most important public spaces, and improve safety.

Gensler, DC won the Re-Think Dupont Circle (an international design competition). The Portal is to become a landmark for Dupont Circle and a ‘proof-of-concept’ for the other seven stair entries that could ultimately frame the Circle in a further series of design competitions.

When: If financing is approved, we hope to have the new Portal installed within a year.

Who: Dupont Underground is an arts and design nonprofit almost entirely operated by volunteers — students, art lovers, architects who donate their time, effort and passion. We rely on grants to fund any major structural improvements.

We are committed to developing a multidisciplinary platform for creative expression. DU strives to reflect the diversity of our community – both artists and audiences – and aims to amplify the voices of creatives, host projects and work that may not otherwise be represented in more conventional venues.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
