Dang It, Sullivan’s Toys and Art Supplies Really is Closing

4200 Wisconsin Ave, NW

I’ve been hearing rumors that Sullivan’s was not doing too well for years. I was told a while ago that they’d be closing sometime this July but I was hoping it was another false alarm and/or that the owners would post a note on their Facebook which I could include, alas there is not (I emailed as well.)

At any rate, there are now major discounts at the store and the shelves are getting bare. If you want to say goodbye, I’d hurry. An employee I spoke to did say they were looking for a new location but they did not find one yet so obviously stay tuned on that front. This is a very sad parting for those with little kids (and artists) or just those who are little kids at heart. Sullivan’s is the type of retail that make our neighborhoods so great. Their leaving here is a sad day indeed. This is not the first time they’ve moved so hoping they find a new space soon. Stay tuned.

For those not familiar:

“We’re Washington, DC’s oldest toy shop still in operation. Family owned and operated since 1954!

In May of 2010, we moved out of old old location at 3412 Wisconsin Ave NW due to construction. We’re now located just a few blocks north at 4200 Wisconsin Ave, the former location of the Tenleytown interim library. Our new store is double the size, has extra-wide aisles that are easy to navigate with even a double stroller, and has a diaper changing station in the bathroom! Stop by and check us out– we’d love to see you!”

See D.C.’s longest-running sketch comedy group do what they do best, when they’re not performing across the country in places such as the terrifying Philadelphia, the gooey Chicago, the M&M Store-y New York City, and the crunchy Seattle.

Now, our last show may or may not have mentioned Taylor Swift, and we may have gotten into some trouble from confused Swifties who thought they scored a $15 ticket to a Taylor Swift concert. So, to apologize and clear up any confusion, we’ve decided to dedicate another show to her. We promise she might or might not appear this time.
