“robbed and assaulted at knifepoint in the Petworth/Georgia Ave metro station around 6:30pm”

A reader reports last night:

“I was robbed and assaulted at knifepoint in the Petworth/Georgia Ave metro station around 6:30pm [Thursday.] Two guys were waiting outside the train when I got off, one followed me to the escalator and put a knife to my side and asked for my phone. I said no, we fought, the other guy joined when it wasn’t a quick transaction. The first guy tried to stab me in the stomach but he had a utility swiss army knife and it wasn’t sharp. Eventually they got the phone after a few punches to the head, another guy who saw it happening got the knife and gave it to the station manager who called transit police.

There were no police in the station or nearby so the guys waited on the platform for a train for about five minutes. Eventually police came. They were caught and I IDed them at another station. They were both arrested, one minor one adult.

I have seen the same thing happen before in the past year or so but the person gave up their phone, where as I let myself get hurt trying not to.”

Ed. Note: Police almost always advise you give up your phone/money/possessions should you, God forbid, find yourself in a similar situation.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
