“I hope everyone who lives in this area knows how lucky they are to have such good neighbors.”

“Dear PoPville,

Writing to share a brief story of many good Samaritans I encountered on Sunday while on my bike in upper Brookland/North Michigan Park. I was riding in the neighborhood on my way to College Park when my bike basically broke down thanks to recurring tire issues I’ve been dealing with. I set up on a street corner in the grass trying to fix the problem for about 45 minutes and almost every single person who passed me (at least 7 people) stopped to ask if I was okay and if I needed anything.

Two people in the houses nearby came out to check on me and offer repair help; one man even gave me some old leftover bike stuff he had totally unprompted. An older woman walking her dog offered to drive me and my bike home in her car, which was extremely kind to offer given the pandemic. I was able to grab a ride from a friend to a repair shop but was extremely touched by how friendly everyone in the neighborhood was. I hope everyone who lives in this area knows how lucky they are to have such good neighbors.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
