Your Afternoon Animal Fix – AdoPtville

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

Volunteer Note: Today’s adoptables are from organizations chosen for memorial donations by the family of Charles “Chuck” Poppe, the Manassas fire chief who passed away unexpectedly in late April. Please consider donating to these wonderful organizations if you can.

Chuck is a special dog (named for a very special hero; see above) who needs a special, even an extraordinary, forever home. Chuck, who is likely a mix of poodle and Chinese Crested breeds, is blind and mostly deaf. Additionally, he is an insulin-dependent diabetic, who needs to have twice-daily shots and a well-controlled diet. It’s a lot, for sure. But here’s the thing – this guy, once he started being treated for his diabetes, became a whole new being with so much to give to the right home. He’s an affectionate dog who likes to be close to his people, and has recently discovered a love for sunning himself on the deck. Chuck is about 8 years old, and is extremely friendly, loving to meet and make new friends! He’s working on housetraining as his diabetes makes him drink a lot of water, but a belly band helps with that, and he’s otherwise a perfect gentleman! Chuck is not the dog for everybody, but there’s somebody out there for whom Chuck is perfect! Is it you? Find out more about adopting this handsome guy here.

Pretty Sylvia is a confident diva hiding inside a shy kitty. Approximately 2 years old, Sylvia was found as a stray, but despite being scared of just about everything at first, loved to be cuddled by volunteers! Now that Sylvia has had a chance to warm up, she’s become even more affectionate! Sylvia loves her people and gets along well with other cats, but will do best in a quiet home without dogs or children, where her inner diva can really emerge. Sylvia’s a young cat with many years of love to share – if you’re interested in adopting this lovely lady, find out more here.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
