Offering comforting classics with a menu inspired by the tried and true traditional New England fish houses, Chef Kyle Bailey and the team are also making it easier than ever to “DIY” with culinary experiences for the home featuring the favored flavors of summer.
Build a Fresh Catch Plate with your fish of choice, sauce, side, and preparation – either ready-to-eat or ready-to-make with easy-to-follow instructions for a “DIY” setup that will have you swimming through any cooking at home. And, learn to shuck your own oysters! This is a pick-up only option, and The Salt Line sets you up for success with a custom TSL Shucking Knife [$6] and a step-by-step video tutorial produced in partnership with Harris Creek Oysters. Shuck-your-own features a daily choice of a dozen Local or New England Oysters, Lemon Wedges, Seasonal Mignonette, and Cocktail Sauce [$24]. Or opt to mix-and-match favorites with the TSL Happy Meal for Grown-Ups: choice of Sandwich, Cape Code Chips, Stuffie, Whoopie Pie, and a 12-ounce Narragansett Lager all for just $21 [choose to upgrade that to a Crispy Fish Sandwich, New England Smash Burger, or a Lobster Roll which can be made ready-to-heat at home, if desired.] The thoughtfully assembled Family Meals [serves four] are packaged perfectly with at-home heating instructions – the first week brings Porchetta – a whole roasted Pork Belly served alongside grilled Broccoli Rabe, Mac & Cheese, Parker House Rolls, and House Sauce.
The parade of à la carte options from classic Clam Chowder to Baked Pimento Crab Dip to the Crab Cobb Salad and the Fried Chicken Sandwich with Hot Honey, Smoked Cheddar, and House Pickles on a Potato Bun will make venturing out feel like a jaunt down the boardwalk. Standing united throughout the temporary closures – the principals of Longshot Hospitality and operators of The Salt Line worked tirelessly to support their furloughed staff securing grants, continuing health benefits, and planning a grass-roots fundraiser that included the help of first baseman Ryan Zimmerman, who gamely signed 500 T-shirts that sold out in under 24 hours. All told, between this outpouring of community support and its own corporate compassion, The Salt Line has been able to distribute an approximate $100K to its valued employees. The Employee Disaster Relief Fund established through the Greater Washington Community Foundation will be funded on an ongoing basis, to meet future needs and serve as a positive legacy of the current crisis.
