Your Afternoon Animal Fix – AdoPtville

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

Meet the amazing Mariam! She’s not just any ol’ cat — she’s a very special one. We bet if you ever thought about it (and we doubt you did!), you would have said there was no queen of Kuwait? Well, okay, you would be correct — but we do have a queen FROM Kuwait: please pay your official respects to Queen Mariam!

She packed her bags, picked up some pretty cool stamps on her paperwork, and headed here to conquer new worlds. She does like to monitor her domain to make sure all is in order but that doesn’t mean she won’t do some “paws-on” activity. She loves to hang out and keep you company while you work but she loves it even more when you play.

Don’t let her age fool you (8 years young!): this royal lady can get downright rambunctious, scrambling around her palace (aka your home) for hours playing with toy mice. And she really puts her back into it when she scratches on her (authorized) cardboard or her upright scratching post. If you want a playful monarch to keep you company and make you laugh, come meet Queen Mariam. You won’t even have to get past any palace guards!

Stella is a total sweetheart who gives endless affection! She loves being a couch potato. She’s incredibly calm, barely makes a sound, and loves every person she meets! Stella walks really well on the leash, but does get excited about squirrels and rabbits when she spots them!

Stella also enjoys playing with other dogs. She is a proper lady who would, however, prefer an adults-only home where she can soak up all the love.

Stella knows some basic commands and sleeps through the night in her foster home, where she has been going outside every few hours during the day.

To find out how to meet Stella through Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation, emails [email protected].

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
