“I am sure this scene is playing out in shuttered parks across the city.”

“Dear PoPville,

I live near Sherwood Recreation Center park in Ward Six by the H Street Corridor, which was shuttered a few days ago by the city. A small group of parents and children have started congregating in a parking lot adjacent to the park. While most adults (not all!) are keeping a distance of six feet from each other, children from different households continue to play together. So, germs continue jumping from household to household, defeating the purpose of closing the park to enforce social distancing measures. I am sure this scene is playing out in shuttered parks across the city.

Can you please remind readers that if children from different households play together, they are still possibly facilitating the spread of the coronavirus? Can you please remind readers that we must all–regardless of age–stay at least six feet from individuals from other households? Can you please remind readers that we are not working and schooling from home because we are on vacation but because we must all do our part to stop the spread of coronavirus?”

Reminder from DCDPR: “All DPR facilities, playgrounds + gated facilities are CLOSED and scheduled to reopen on Mon, April 27.

Dog parks, skate parks, trails and open green spaces remain open during normal hours.

During this time, practice social distancing, and as much as possible … #StayHomeDC”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
