“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to pass along an alarming article published by the Washington Post two days ago which outlines an FBI raid that was performed at our apartment building Capitol View on 14th a couple of weeks ago. A man who is allegedly part of the extremely infamous Triad Chinese organized crime gang apparently abducted someone and held them against their will at our apartment building until the FBI figured it out, and surrounded and raided the premises. We saw FBI agents with bullet proof vests on as we arrived at our building that day, but did not get any details as to what was going on.

If you read the article, it is really unbelievable. There were Uzi’s and really hardcore drugs found in his apartment.

I wanted to send this to you as our apartment building hasn’t done a single thing about this, explained the incident (beyond a very vanilla email — screenshotted above), or responded with any security or other personnel, and I think people at our building and surrounding areas need to know that this scary incident happened here, especially because this isn’t the first time something like this has happened at Capitol View on 14th in the last two months. If you recall, PoPville posted on Jan 4th about another incident at Capitol View on 14th with ANOTHER man on the 4th floor that was gun-related (he got shot, apparently drug related as well), causing major water damage to the apartments on the 4th floor and below. The building again didn’t respond adequately, leaving many residents frustrated. They did put a security guard at the front desk for 3-4 days following the incident in January, but since then there have been 0 security presence and it seems like the building is trying to sweep this last incident under the rug as well without any action. We are really frustrated.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
