Yang Market Coming Back to Eckington in September!!

Thanks to CP for passing on their INDIEGOGO campaign:

138 U Street, NE via Yang Market

“Yang Market has been the cornerstone of Eckington for over 70 years. Located at the corner of Summit & U Streets NE, the store opened in the 1940s as one of many District Grocery Stores (DGS) operating throughout the region. Yang Market has stood witness to the evolution of our neighborhood and city ever since.

Yang Market’s closing last December was a blow to the neighborhood because it was more than a convenience store, but an integral part of Eckington’s history. We saw the need to restore this cornerstone as the place you can get your morning coffee and bagel, satisfy your sweet tooth, and we’ll even be there when you run out of dog food.

Although it has only been closed for seven months, a great deal of elbow grease was required to bring Yang Market back to life. From the removal of the bulletproof glass, installing a new floor, freshly painted walls, to a double deep cleaning – This restoration has been a family labor of love. Our combined backgrounds include graphic & interior design, home & business organization, hospitality, and marketing. Not only do we see owning Yang Market as a great way to put all our skills to use, but we also want to provide a space for all of Eckington to enjoy.

We’ve taken care of the heavy lifting and now reaching out to our friends and neighbors for help stocking Yang Market with your favorite things. We look forward to reopening the doors of this Eckington treasure!

– Alex & Kathleen”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
