Your Afternoon Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

In honor of Memorial Day, we’re putting “classic” AdoPtville on hold today to tell you about some organizations working to both help pets and to honor those who serve:

Pets for Vets (https://petsforvets.com/washington-dc and Pets for Patriots (https://petsforpatriots.org/) both work to match veterans with homeless animals.  For many veterans, having this animal need them is what gets them out of bed in the morning.  Many have found the relationship with their rescued pet to be healing.  Both organizations are in need of donations, volunteers and word of mouth!

Dogs on Deployment (https://www.dogsondeployment.org/) and Guardian Angels for Soldier’s Pet (https://gafsp.org/) both work to find foster families willing to “board” pets whose military owners are deployed to places the pet(s) cannot follow.  Both organizations would love to have additional willing foster families, volunteers, people willing to share information about their work, and donations!

Volunteer PSA – A reminder to ensure your pets are secured for the holiday, as fireworks are often terrifying for our pets:  https://www.familycircle.com/family-fun/pets/firework-safety-for-pets/

Enjoy your holiday weekend, and many thanks from us for all your support for the pets of PoPville and AdoPtville!

Finding a gift for moms can be difficult. Google “Mother’s Day gifts,” and you’ll scroll through endless lists of beauty products, candles and fuzzy robes. Sure, those are sweet, but sometimes it’s fun to surprise loved ones with something a little more, well, practical!

Here’s one idea: Give her a gift certificate for a home cleaning from Well-Paid Maids. It’s the perfect “thank you,” “I love you” or “you’ve got this” for any mom. She can schedule the home cleaning at her convenience and breathe easy knowing she has one less thing to do.

Our cleaners will take care of everything, including vacuuming and mopping as well as cleaning and dusting countertops, tables, mirrors, appliances and more. Sinks, toilets, showers and appliance exteriors also get a good scrub.
