“due to heavy rain and some snow earlier in the season, leaf collections are slightly behind schedule”

“Dear PoPville,

DPW’s DC Leaf Collection Brochure, sent to all DC residents several months ago, proudly proclaims the dates of leaf collection. My 5 day period for pick up in Ward 6 ended on November 17. Now, 29 days later, the leaves continue to pile up. The Director of DPW proudly says the program is working. I beg to differ. Where are you, DPW? Anyone have a similar/ better story?”

Last week DPW reported:

“Leaf Collection Update: December 13, 2018

While our crews are working hard to service everyone, due to heavy rain and some snow earlier in the season, leaf collections are slightly behind schedule in some parts of the District. Below you will find updates for each ward. Please continue to rake your leaves into your tree box (or at the curb if there is no tree box) according to the original schedule, so that our crews can collect them as soon as possible. We thank you for your understanding and patience.

Ward Schedule Updates:

Ward 1: On schedule. Second pass starting in Section A on Dec. 17.

Ward 2: On schedule. Second pass starting in Section A on Dec. 17.

Ward 3: On schedule. Second pass started in Section A this week.

Ward 4: Finishing up section E, then moving to second pass for Section A.

Ward 5: Finishing up sections D and E, then moving to second pass for section A.

Ward 6: Finishing up sections C, D, and E this week, then moving to second pass for section A.

Ward 7: Finishing up section E, then moving to second pass for Section A.

Ward 8: On schedule. Second pass starting in section A on Dec. 17.

For more information about leaf collection in the District, please visit our web page. There is a link on the page to register to receive alerts about when DPW’s leaf collection crews will be coming to your neighborhood.

DPW also provides an interactive map of leaf collections that can be viewed online. Instructions for using the map are provided on the page.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
