“We need donations of food or funds to provide their Thanksgiving meal”

“PoPville peeps,

I volunteer with Charlie’s Place, a tremendous DC homeless program in Dupont Circle that provides meals and counseling to the homeless in the neighborhood. I’m hoping the PoPville community can come through as usual to show this little DC charity some Thanksgiving love. We need donations of food or funds to provide their Thanksgiving meal – see the list above.

Because everybody wants to volunteer on Thanksgiving Day, the bigger DC shelters provide a big meal on that day to take advantage of the volunteer demand. This meets the demand for the homeless on that day, so we’ve decided to deliver an early Thanksgiving meal a week ahead, on Nov. 15.

We’ve even got a very generous professional chef to volunteer her expertise to prepare the meal. But we need donations for the ingredients. Donors can provide the food products (deliver anytime from 6 a.m to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at the address below) or just donate funds for us to purchase them here and reference the Thanksgiving Meal in the designation box. We’ve got a big list and of course welcome any partial donations of our ingredients. Questions? [email protected]

Thank you PoPville!”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
