“Take pride in your Shaw/U Street corridor!
Every year, volunteers get together to clean up, plant, & mulch the 1/4 miles of street gardens that are part of historic Vermont Avenue, in Washington, DC.
This is a great way to meet your neighbors and take pride in the beauty of a vital part of our city. We need about 30 people to participate, more is better.
NO EXPERIENCE IS NEEDED. Training, tools, & other support will be provided. Free breakfast, lunch, drinks and door prizes included.
Please arrive by 9:00am sharp for training, or join us asap. Meet at the African American Civil War Memorial (U Street & Vermont)
TOOLS & PROTECTION: Many tools will be provided, but if you’ve got ’em, please bring ’em, ideally with your name on ’em. Bright clothes, hat & sun block also recommended.
Request for care: To avoid compacting the soil & damaging plant roots, please do not walk through the beds during the year.
Event coordinated by Jeffrey Willis Co-Coordinator: David Treanor
Please support our terrific Major Sponsors: Nellie’s Sports Bar, Fort Myer Construciton Corporation (safety cones), JBG SMITH (funding), Urban Brokers, LLC (funding), Bediz Group (funding & coordinating), DC Urban Forestry (mulch)”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
