Little Havana, from the chef behind El Sol and Mezcalero, opening on 14th Street this Spring – All the details!

3704 14th Street, NW at Quincy looking north towards Taqueria Habanero, Mezcalero, Red Derby and Lyman’s. Not a bad little block.

From scuttlebutt in June 2017 to reality. Nice!

All the details from a press release:

“Chef Alfredo Solis announces his newest restaurant, Little Havana, slated to open this spring.

Located at 3704 14th Street NW, just a few doors down from Solis’ celebrated Mezcalero Cocina Mexicana, Little Havana will serve Cubano cuisine–Cuban food inspired by the entirety of Latin America. The menu will include soups, sandwiches, pastries, Cuban coffee, and medium-sized entrees.

At the helm of Little Havana is Chef Joseph Osorio, a chef trained at the French Culinary Institute and at the Queens, New York home of his Godmother, Mimi, a Cuban immigrant.

Chef Osorio will manage the day-to-day operations of the kitchen and the entire restaurant.

Little Havana’s bar program is led by Heriberto Casasanero, who cut his teeth at Founding Farmers, Reliable Tavern, and Copycat. Tropical fruits and fresh juices with artisanal ice and an emphasis on rum and other classic Cuban cocktails will be the focus of the program.

The 60-seat restaurant features a large wall mural painted by Cuban artist, Rafael Almonte and when warm, a patio fit for up to 16 people. The open kitchen is in the restaurant’s center welcoming diners into the fullness of the experience at Little Havana.

“What I’m most excited about is doing my part to further share the expansive influence of Latin cuisine and helping other Latin chefs and immigrants with the opportunity to have gainful, meaningful employment. I was given several opportunities to rise from a dishwasher to owner of now three restaurants and want to pay it forward,” says Chef Solis.

Little Havana opens this spring at 3704 14th Street NW in the Columbia Heights neighborhood. Service will begin serving only dinner with lunch and brunch soon to follow.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
