Friday Question of the Day – How Do You Commute These Days? 2018 Edition

“Piney Branch between Beach Drive and 17th. It seems to be collecting trophies. I counted 27 hubcaps on that section of Piney Branch on Tuesday afternoon.”

“Dear PoPville,

I figured I would share the news because misery loves company. As I’m sure people are aware, commuting on Piney Branch Parkway has become an off-roading adventure. The potholes are the size of kiddie pools, and cars keep swerving into oncoming traffic to avoid them (though it’s not like there are any paint dividers, so I guess it’s fair game?) I submitted a Roadway Repair Request on 311’s website, and I learned that the turnaround time is 270 business days. Not wanting to believe that insane timeline, I then spoke with a representative to get some more info/any hope, and I was told: “Street construction activities are determined and budgeted based on a Pavement Condition Index (PCI) survey that is conducted every two years.” I understand there’s a process and a project of this scope takes time, but uggghhhhhhh.

In the meantime, if anyone wants to submit their own requests (strength in numbers!), they can do so at: https://311.dc.gov/.”

So given the potholes, the car sharing travails, the underground travails all the transit travails – how are you regularly commuting these days. Like the Olympics, it’s been 2 years (Winter/Summer c’mon!!) since our last commuting poll. So how are you regularly commuting these days?

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
