“that stop sign has returned”

“Dear PoPville,

When the NPS reopened the the part of Beach Drive that had been closed for road work, they made a miraculous adjustment to the traffic flow from NW DC to downtown by removing the Southbound stop sign at Beach Drive and Piney Branch Parkway. It was a huge improvement to the morning commute by relieving congestion in the lane of the vast majority of southbound traffic during rush hours when Rock Creek Parkway is geared to move as many cars south to downtown as quickly as possible by keeping traffic moving unobstructed in the direction of the vast majority of rush hour drivers’ commutes.

But in the past several weeks, that stop sign has returned, and brought the congestion with it.

The back up from that stop sign at rush hour can reach all the way up to the light at Arkansas Avenue, and it can add 20 minutes or more to a southbound commute in the morning. This morning was relatively light, but as you can see from the photos, the backup was still unreasonable given the volume of traffic headed in that direction.

Is there any word from the National Park Service about why that stop sign went back up, and if southbound commuters can expect it to be gone soon and relieve the morning congestion?”

Finding a gift for moms can be difficult. Google “Mother’s Day gifts,” and you’ll scroll through endless lists of beauty products, candles and fuzzy robes. Sure, those are sweet, but sometimes it’s fun to surprise loved ones with something a little more, well, practical!

Here’s one idea: Give her a gift certificate for a home cleaning from Well-Paid Maids. It’s the perfect “thank you,” “I love you” or “you’ve got this” for any mom. She can schedule the home cleaning at her convenience and breathe easy knowing she has one less thing to do.

Our cleaners will take care of everything, including vacuuming and mopping as well as cleaning and dusting countertops, tables, mirrors, appliances and more. Sinks, toilets, showers and appliance exteriors also get a good scrub.
