MONDAY, JAN. 29

CLOTHES SWAP: It’s time for pre-spring cleaning: Clear your closet of gently-used clothes that you never wear, and bring them to a clothing swap. You’ll be able to trade your threads on-site for other cloths people have brought to swap, and you’ll walk out with a whole new outfit. (The Potter’s House, 6 – 8 p.m., FREE)

TIME IS UP: Platform: A New Generation of Politically Empowered Women is an education and lobbying group inspired by the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements. Today, it will host a panel and workshop about ways to advocate for an end to sexual violence and harassment. Tuesday, participants can go to Capitol Hill to meet with lawmakers and put their new tactics to use. (Social Tables, times vary, FREE, registration required)

FOOD FREEDOM: We’re a culture obsessed with food – but when does that obsession become unhealthy? Food group pineapple presents a talk on food freedom and our relationship with it. Four women from the wellness and food industry will speak to the group about identities with food and the emotions that accompany eating. (Logan Exchange, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., $25 – $30)

BALLET: Have you ever wanted to dance ballet? Now’s your chance – Halcyon Arts Lab will host a series of ballet classes taught by local professional dancers. Over 10 classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, you’ll learn the ins and outs of classical and contemporary ballet. It’s an open, nurturing environment, and all levels are welcome. (Halcyon Arts Lab, Tuesday and Thursday 6-7:30 p.m., $160)

WOMEN IN THE MEDIA: If you’re wondering what it takes to make it as a woman in media, come to this talk. Cnn reporter Hadas Gold, Washington Post columnist Alexandra Petri, and NPR Morning Edition producer Ashley Westerman will be at Sixth & I for a conversation and networking event. The woman will talk panel-style about their career paths, the challenges they’ve faced, and being a woman in the news world. (Sixth & I, 7 p.m., $12)

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 31

GO GREEN: Join Senator Bernie Sanders, Jacqueline Patterson of the NAACP, Rev. Yearwood of the Hip Hop Caucus, and more at Fossil Free Fast: The Climate Resistance. They’ll be speaking about the climate crisis and ways we can advocate for environment protection. (Lisner Auditorium, 8 p.m., $5 – $50)

SAVOR THE SWEET LIFE: Dessert wines can be difficult to serve, but DCANTER will teach you how at its class tonight. You’ll learn what to serve with sweet wines while tasting some, as well. There will be cheese and discounts on wine purchases, too. (DCANTER, 7 – 8 p.m., $39)

DRINK + DINE: Tequila! It’s a Patron dinner at Gordon Biersch tonight. Come by for a four-course dinner with dishes like fresh Mahi tacos, Caribbean jerk chicken, and shrimp scampi. Each will be paired with a Patron tequila drink, and there’ll be a discussion on the history of the liquor, too. (Gordon Biersch Navy Yard, $50, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.)

GARDEN WALK: This one is specifically designed for caretakers and parents with a little one in a snuggly. Take your plus-one out for a day on the town at the U.S. Botanic Garden. Join up with other snuggly-wearers to take a tour through the gardens with an expert. (U.S. Botanic Garden, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., FREE)

PHILLIPS AFTER 5: Celebrate all things D.C. at The Phillips Collection tonight. Its Phillips After 5 event will feature a performance by DC composer and singer Lulu Fall, a beer tasting with 3 Stars Brewing Company, Republic Restoratives cocktails, and food from Dorjee Momo and Tortilladora. The folks from Shop Made in DC will be on-site for a talk about DC creatives, as well several area artists. (The Phillips Collection, 5 – 8:30 p.m., $10 – $12)

SCOTCH & SOUL: Like to drink scotch and listen to soul music? Tonight is your night: DJ Chubb E Swagg will be playing soul music at Bourbon tonight, and there will be plenty of scotch. Try a tasting of Glenfiddich, order soul-themed cocktails such as “The Sweetest Thing” and “Next Lifetime,” or step it up by trying some of Glenfiddich’s premium liquor. (Bourbon, 7:30 – 10:30 p.m., $15)
