Fundraiser for Crossing Guard injured in a Hit and Run last week, “She is a single mother to two boys”

via GoFundMe

Thanks to Tiffani for sending an update on the “crossing guard hit by a motorist who did not stop”. The gofundme page says:

“On Wednesday, December 20th, West Education Campus’ beloved Crossing Guard, Jawan Thompson, was hit from behind by a motorist who did not even stop to see if she was ok. (read more about the accident at the link below) Jawan fractured her neck and broke her pelvis in four places; she is recovering at Washington Medstar Hospital. It is a blessing to greet Jawan each morning and afternoon on your way to/from school. Whether giving you a huge smile and hug, or a dollar bill for your piggy bank when you lost your first tooth, she is thoughtful and caring. It is overwhelming to think that she was injured so badly while working to keep our children safe. Jawan is a special part of our community, and we want to show her how much we love and appreciate her. She is a single mother to two boys, ages 9 and 12, and any amount you can give will be a huge blessing during these months while she is recovering and not able to work. Thank you!”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
