Arrest Made in Stabbing Death of 34 Year Old Corrina Mehiel

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Homicide Branch have announced an arrest has been made in a homicide that occurred in the 600 block of 14th Street, Northeast, on Tuesday, March 21, 2017.

At approximately 4:19 pm, members of the First District responded to the listed location for a report of an unconscious person inside of a residence. Upon arrival, members located an adult female suffering from multiple stab wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life. The victim remained on the scene until she was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent was identified as 34-year-old Corrina Mehiel, of Burnsville, North Carolina.

On Monday, March 27, 2017, members of MPD’s Fifth District arrested 28-year-old El Hadji Alpha Madiou Toure, of no fixed address, as a fugitive from another jurisdiction for an outstanding warrant. He was subsequently transported to the Homicide Branch where he was charged with First Degree Murder while Armed and Theft One in the death of Corrina Mehiel.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
