From a press release:

Idea:Exchange, AED’s new space dedicated to dialogue, is an effort to explore how the exchange of ideas can create the foundations for powerful social change. The forum aims to stimulate and promote open, deliberative discussions on social and development issues.

AED will inaugurate Idea:Exchange with a thought-provoking photo exhibit titled The Way We See It: Young Photographers Examine, Define and Change Their World, which includes work from AED, Critical Exposure and Josh Schachter. The exhibit showcases photos taken by children and youth from D.C. and around the world who used the art of photography to reveal their lives, speak out about social issues, and advocate for better public policies.

One collection in the exhibit was shot by D.C. students as an expression of their reasons for leaving and ultimately returning school. In another, youth in Mali, West Africa recorded their village life. And photos taken by refugee and immigrant youth in Tucson, Arizona highlight critical social issues in their lives and communities. The exhibit will be open Wednesdays through Fridays, June 18 through September 3, from 2-7PM.

A lecture series on the exhibit will take place at the AED Globe Theater from June 22 through July 31. The first lecture, on June 22 from 5:30-7:30PM, will be a conversation with the three exhibitors, and will offer a behind the scenes look at The Way We See It.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
