“Papa’s 117th Birthday
Thursday, July 21st is Ernest Hemingway’s birthday & without him, there’d be no Pilar. To celebrate what would be Papa’s 117th birthday, Chef Jesse Miller will be offering a special EH-inspired menu throughout the restaurant, and special guest bartender Chantal Tseng will have a selection of literary cocktails available at the upstairs bar all night. Stop in, grab a bite to eat, & raise a glass to Papa! No reservations required but suggested.
Some of the menu items that will be on Chef Miller’s birthday menu, include:
Grilled Head-on Prawns with avocado, black pepper and lime
Ropa Vieja – shredded Cuban brisket, green pepper, cumin, molasses & roasted garlic served over rice
Lobster with artichoke, white wine, lemon and Cipollini onions
Radish with cultured butter and baguette
Drunken Rabbit Stew
Cuban Spaghetti with slow-roasted pork and chicken in a Cuban broth
East African Curried Squab and rice
Whole Snapper Escabiche with baby carrots
Slow-Roasted beef on white toast with béarnaise and soft egg
Half or Whole Roasted Duck with Marsala and a saffron rice

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
