Free in DC: Things to do Tonight – Sunday!

Highlights for Thursday, May 13th – Sunday, May 16th

Tonight…

Choose from a wide selection of free events in DC including: an evening of music and history featuring Songs from the Civil War era at the National Archives 7pm, Power Point Karaoke, where you improvise to slides, and happy hour at Wonderland from 6:30-8:30pm, or an Energy Efficiency Workshop at Greater Goods 8pm-9pm. Hear some Live Music at Ebenezer’s Coffeeshop near Union Station, 7:30pm-10pm, 3 bands for $8, or swing by Bossa in Adams Morgan to dance to the music of House of Soul, 10pm -1am, $3. In Old Town Alexandria, VA you can see Musician Mateo Monk play at the Anthenaeum, 7pm, $10. Also in Old Town, you can attend a free Art Opening for Teresa Oaxaca’s new works with live classical duo at the Art League in the Torpedo Factory on the Waterfront 6:30pm-8:30pm. Reminder that The Phillips Collection stays open ’til 8:30pm every Thursday night and visiting the permanent collection is donation based and The Studio DC, which opened last weekend in Dupont, is still offering Free Yoga classes thru Friday.

During the day this weekend…

Yoga Week DC kicks off this Saturday with free “Yoga on the Mall” from 1pm-5pm. You can also join in or enjoy some spoken work at the Guerrilla Poetry Insurgency’s Outdoor Open Mic in Dupont Circle this Saturday from 5pm-7pm. Local Artist Dana Ellyn hosts an Open Studio at her space at 916 G St, NW from Noon-6pm. If you want to stay inside, you can enjoy a free screening of a Film about Chopin at 2pm at the National Gallery of Art.  On Sunday, you can head over to The Writer’s Center in Bethesda, MD for their free Open Door Reading Series at 2pm. Sunday from Noon-3pm you can enjoy a free Indian Meal with “Karma Kitchen” and continue with the good karma by enjoying a Free Community Yoga at Quiet Mind in Columbia Heights, offered every Sunday from 4pm-5pm.


At night this weekend…

Friday night, there is an Art Opening at The Curator’s Office from 6pm-8pm and also an Opening at Flashpoint from 6pm-8pm. Learn more about the Dupont Underground at Bang & Olufsen, where they will be hosting a fundraiser for the project this Friday in Bethesda from 6:30pm-9:30pm. The Potter’s House in Adams Morgan will be hosting their monthly all ages Open Mic for Music & Poetry from 7pm-10:30pm this Friday night. There are a few Art Openings on Saturday night you can enjoy. Art Opening at Studio H from 6pm-9pm and Art Opening at Conner Contemporary from 6pm-8pm. Enjoy a later Art Opening with Live Music at The Fridge from 8pm-10pm. SuluDC moves to U St Music Hall for their May Performance, which will feature local poet Regie Cabico, this Saturday night from 6:30pm-10pm, $10 cover. On Sunday night, BloomBars hosts their second installment of Art + Music with “A Thousand Blooms II” which will take place from 5pm-8:30pm. Sunday evening you can go to hear Free Classical Music at the National Gallery of Art at 6:30pm or head over to IMCW Meditation at All Souls at 6:00pm, dhana, donation, based.
