Inside-Look-Distillery
Jos. A. Magnus & Co. is located at 2052 West Virginia Ave NE #202, Washington DC 20002, above Atlas Brew Works.

From a press release:

“Joseph Magnus was a famous pre-prohibition bourbon and gin distiller, blender and rectifier who founded his company in 1892, and his great grandson, Jimmy Turner, is reopening the distillery in Washington DC. Magnus’ great-grandson assembled a whiskey and gin “dream team” to help bring this pre-prohibition heritage to DC, including Dave Scheurich, former Woodford Reserve Distiller and Whiskey Advocate Life Time Achievement Award Winner, Nancy “The Nose” Fraley, Director of Research for American Distilling Institute and the nation’s top whiskey blender, Richard Wolf, former Chairman of the Kentucky Distillers Association and VP General Manager at Buffalo Trace, DC’s own Brett Thompson, former Shark Tank contestant and CEO of Pork Barrel BBQ, and Nicole Hassoun, 2014 Washington Post Bartender of the Year, owner of custom tonic company Chronic Tonic and former head of the DC’s Gin Joint.

The Jos. A. Magnus & Co. cocktail lounge, is named for one of Joseph Magnus’ most famous bourbons, Murray Hill Club, and will be run by DC’s bartender of the year in 2014, Nicole Hassoun. Nicole is known for her experimental flare in crafting cocktails.

“The Murray Hill Club is for people who want to experience a cocktail journey and I’m looking forward to bringing that experimental approach to cocktails here to DC,” said Hassoun. “I’m so excited to be part of such an impressive group of experts who’ve come together to honor Magnus’ legacy and create a space for Washingtonians to relax and enjoy delicious pre-prohibition heritage cocktails.”

The cocktail lounge will be featuring gin cocktails until the grand opening September 12th and then will offer both bourbon and gin cocktails to guests. Doors to the Magnus tasting room and cocktail lounge open on Saturday, August 22nd at 1 pm.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
