From a press release:

“The Lemur Conservation Network (www.lemurconservationnetwork.org) celebrates their launch on March 19th at a party in Washington, D.C. at the Right Proper Brewing Company. The Lemur Conservation Network unites over 40 organizations working to save Madagascar’s lemurs from extinction with people who want to support the cause.

The launch party is FREE to attend, and everyone is welcome. As a special treat for our lemur fans, we will have early copies of the late, great Alison Jolly’s new book Thank You Madagascar from 6 – 8 pm. The book won’t be widely released until next month, and we thank the Jolly family for the opportunity to share the conservation diaries of this seminal lemur conservationist with friends of the Lemur Conservation Network.

What: Lemur Conservation Network official launch party!
When: Thursday, March 19th, 6 – 10 PM
Where: Right Proper Brewing Company, 624 T Street NW

The Right Proper Brewing Company is located in historic Shaw, and home to a wide range of house-made beers. At the event, you’ll find:

Live music from the Bitter Dose Combo (http://bitterdose.com/wordpress/)
$1 off most drafts – some of which will be “lemurized” exclusively for our event.
Prizes including:
Allison Jolly’s new book Thank You, Madagascar (not yet available in book stores!),
Lemurs of Madagascar pocket identification guide books,
Books on lemurs and Madagascar,
Ring-tailed Lemur bobbleheads,
T-shirts, tote bags, and more!

Event-goers can raise money for lemur conservation without spending a dime! Our website sponsor, The Art Monkey (www.theartmonkey.com), is donating $5 for every social media mention of the hashtag #ilovelemurs all night long (up to $500) to Conservation Fusion (www.conservationfusion.org)! And, all raffle proceeds and other donations will benefit Sadabe (www.sadabe.org).

The Lemur Conservation Network supports the Lemur Action Plan, a $7 million lemur conservation strategy from the IUCN SSC Primate Specialist Group. Over a dozen media groups, including The Independent, Radio France Internationale, and Mongabay covered the launch of the Lemur Conservation Network’s website on February 25th. Lemur fans worldwide look to the Lemur Conservation Network for lemur news, and the best, most effective way to help save lemurs from extinction.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
