MPD Officer/Pastor at God-A Second Chance Ministry Church Arrested for Alleged First Degree Sex Abuse of a Minor

“On Monday, March 16, 2015, at approximately 9:00 pm, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 45-year-old Darrell Best of Upper Marlboro, MD pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, charging him with First Degree Sex Abuse of a Minor.

On Saturday, March 14, 2015, a 16 year old female reported to the Metropolitan Police Department that she was the victim of a First Degree Sex Abuse of a Minor on three separate occasions, starting in December 2014. The perpetrator of these offenses was an off-duty MPD Officer Darrell Best, who is the pastor of her church God-A Second Chance Ministry Church located on Southern Avenue SE. As a result of an investigation initiated by MPD detectives of the Youth Investigations Division, a DC Superior Court arrest warrant was issued on Sunday, March 15, 2015 charging Darrell Best with First Degree Sex Abuse of a Minor. He was arrested in Largo, MD.

Detectives from the Youth Investigations Division are continuing their investigation of this offense and any related offenses. Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
