From MPD:

“On 12/5/14, unknown persons forced entry into a condominium unit in the 3600 block of New Hampshire Avenue, NW. Taken was assorted jewelry, credit cards, and a vehicle. The vehicle was recovered several days later. The Fourth District Detectives Unit (4DDU) identified a subject based on their investigation into the offense. Today [Tuesday], the 4DDU detective in the case interviewed 18 year old Ayang Henok of Takoma Park, MD. Based on the content of the interview and evidence that had been recovered, Ayan Henok has been charged with Burglary II. In this case, an alert neighbor noticed the forced entry into the victim’s residence who was away on vacation out of state. The quick reporting assisted the detective in gathering pertinent information that assisted in the closure of this case. I cannot stress enough the power of the community and neighbors looking out for one another.

If you notice suspicious activity to please call 911 and provide the best description possible and the exact location.”

“On Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at around 3:40 pm, an alert member of the community called the police after they noticed that someone in the rear alley of the 1200 block of Gallatin Street, NW, was carrying packages that did not belong to them. The community member gave a very descriptive lookout that was relayed to the arriving police officers. The officers quickly located a subject that they observed putting packages into a trash can in the rear alley of . After a brief investigation, it was determined that the packages that were in the trash can were stolen from the porches of nearby residences. The subject was placed under arrest. He is identified as 19 year old Julian Wright of the 1200 block of Decatur Street, NW.

This case closure is an example of an alert community member immediately reporting to police suspicious activity and the quick response by officers to locate the suspect. The packages were returned to the owners.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
