H Street NE

“Today is the last day to ride the DC Streetcar.” And so concludes our long running series: Trouble on the Tracks, H Street, NE editions. Streetcar Ran so the Gondola could Fly. So Scooters. No, Waymo – What’s up with Waymo?!? Long Live the Bus!!

I’d be lying if I didn’t say this thing has been troubled since day one. Actually well before day one. And SOME folks really liked it. And had it been implemented differently this could’ve been an actual game changer. But for those who weren’t here in those days, the Streetcar buzz absolutely injected excitement and more life and certainly had an impact on H Street, NE’s revival. But there were troubles. OH there were troubles. But no need to kick someone when they’re down. So Streetcar – Farewell. Many miles of words were typed about you. You WILL be remembered. And who knows, maybe one day…

Now bring back…Murry’s!! No, bring back the Palace of Wonders. No, The Red and The Black!! NO, bring back The Argonaut!!! Ah never mind – Onward!!

DC Streetcar with the final word:

“Today is the last day to ride #DCStreetcar. We’re reflecting on 10 years of service along the H Street NE Corridor & Benning Road. Thank you to our riders, local businesses, and community for being part of the journey. Service will end today, 3/31/26, with the last ride at 10 PM.

ICYMI the original announcement:

“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announces that DC Streetcar service will end on March 31, 2026. Following this date, the DC Streetcar will no longer operate. Riders are encouraged to plan and explore alternate travel options, including WMATA’s D20 bus.

As part of this transition, DDOT is coordinating closely with WMATA Metrobus to provide alternatives for current riders throughout the H Street Corridor. Information and travel guides outlining these options, as well as access to Capital Bikeshare and other DDOT-managed modes of transportation, are available on the DDOT website.

DDOT acknowledges and appreciates the contributions of riders, employees, and community members who have supported the DC Streetcar during its decade of service to the District.”
