From a press release:
“Pitango Gelato, known for artisanal Italian gelato in the Washington, DC region is excited to announce a new gelato and coffee shop along DC’s 14th Street corridor. The new location is due to open at 1802 14th Street, NW in Summer 2025, and will be Pitango’s eighth location in the DC, Maryland, Virginia and Baltimore area. Patrons will be able to enjoy coffee, Italian baked goods and fresh, hand-spun, gelato made with high quality, organic ingredients. The 1,027 square foot space, designed by EastWing Architects will also feature indoor seating for up to 10 guests.
“Pitango is excited to join the lineup of great restaurants and bars on such a vibrant corridor in the city where we humbly started 18 years ago,” said Dinah Bengur, CEO of Pitango. “We love the liveliness and walkability of 14th Street and are excited to return to the neighborhood where we’ll introduce residents and visitors to our authentic, made-from-scratch gelato,” continued Bengur. “Like our other locations, each batch of our gelato will be made from simple, wholesome ingredients and churned in-store to preserve freshness and flavor.”
Pitango has prided itself on making gelato with organic milk from grass-fed cows and sorbet from fresh fruit. Every batch is made from scratch with simple, natural ingredients and all products are free from artificial colors, flavors and preservatives. Unique to many gelato or ice cream stores, each flavor at Pitango is churned on-site at each location to ensure peak freshness.
In total, the 14th Street store will carry 20 flavors, 10 of which will be dedicated to sorbets and other dairy-free options. The shop will also offer a rotating selection of Pitango’s house-made gelato flavors, including the popular Sicilian Pistachio made with coveted imported Pistachios di Bronte, Gianduja made with Piedmontese hazelnuts and Domori chocolate, Stracciatella made with Fior di Latte gelato and 100% single-origin dark chocolate and dairy-free Raspberry sorbet made with freshly picked raspberries. Hand-packed pints of gelato and sorbet will be available for purchase.
The new Pitango outpost will also offer an extensive coffee menu with custom blends from local roaster, Vigilante Coffee, and a selection of sweet and savory baked goods. Three varieties of custom blended Vigilante coffee will be sold alongside a thoughtful retail selection of Pitango branded Biscotti, Amaretti Morbidi, Sicilian Almond Cookies and more, all made at Pitango’s Baltimore outpost and commissary kitchen. The colder months will see organic, intense sipping chocolate added to the menu to complement the high-quality coffee program.
Final menus, hours of operations and opening details will be made available closer to the opening.”
