“After 26 years at Calvert Woodley, it is with heartfelt emotion and gratitude that I announce the sale of CW to Jay and Tanvi Patel from nearby Chevy Chase.
Calvert Woodley, and Woodley Wine & Liquor before that, has been in my family since 1966,
and means more to us than you could ever know. This is an exciting time, but one that’s filled with a wide range of emotions. I have grown immensely these last 26 years, having learned so much and having formed amazing relationships I never could have imagined with customers, co-workers, people in the community, and suppliers – both here and abroad – that truly mean so much to me.
I’m passing the torch to Jay and Tanvi, who will now lead Calvert Woodley into the future. Together, our families and dedicated staff remain committed to the exceptional service and community support you have come to expect from us. I will remain an active member of our team during this transition, ensuring that the trusted traditions of our past continue while we embrace fresh energy and new opportunities.
One of those traditions is the Direct Importing that has helped make our selection so unique, so just recently, in mid-February, I traveled to Paris with Jay to attend Vinexpo Paris, a huge wine and spirits trade show. At the show, I was able to introduce him to many of the people that CW does business with from Bordeaux, Burgundy, Spain, Italy, Argentina, and so many more places. I am thrilled that Jay will continue the relationships that have helped make CW what it is today.
Calvert Woodley has strived to be a cherished part of our community, with decades of dedication, quality service, and a deep commitment to our neighbors. From the beginning, we have prided ourselves on offering not only an exceptional selection of wines and spirits (and more!) but also a warm family atmosphere that welcomes everyone. With Jay and Tanvi now at the helm, I’m confident this will continue for many years to come.
Thank you for your support through the years. It has been the honor of a lifetime to be the owner of CW, one that I never took lightly. I know Jay and Tanvi feel the same way and they’re excited to embark on this exciting new chapter in the Calvert Woodley journey.
