Miami’s Bodega Taqueria y Tequila opens tomorrow (Friday, January 24) in DC!

“Bodega Taqueria y Tequila will open in Foggy Bottom January 24”

From a press release:

Bodega Taqueria y Tequila, a unique fast-casual taqueria that has established a reputation in Miami for Mexican street food-inspired fare and high-energy nightlife tucked away in a speakeasy-style lounge, lands in Washington on January 24 with its first DC location, a 3,800-square-foot outpost centrally located in Foggy Bottom. With a reconfigured Airstream slinging authentic and novel Mexican favorites, a secret passage (through an industrial kitchen door!) to a vibrant speakeasy that pulses with late-night DJ sets, expertly crafted cocktails, plus an enviable list of premium tequilas, Bodega will bring just the right vibes to this nightlife-starved neighborhood.

“Bodega Taqueria y Tequila’s Birria taco”

Bodega Taqueria y Tequila’s (2127 I St. NW) extensive menu is brimming with an array of choices for taco lovers, with classics such as Al Pastor (roasted pork, pineapple, onion, cilantro), Carne Asada (ribeye, onion, cilantro, avocado salsa) and Birria (barbacoa, melted jack cheese, avocado salsa, birria consomme) as well as specialities including Steak Chimichurri (carne asada, tomato, potato sticks, radish, cilantro, chimichurri aioli) and Camaron al Coco (coconut shrimp, mango pico, potato sticks, cilantro, salsa rosada). Try veggie offerings like the Dorados (crispy tacos with melted jack cheese) including the Elote (roasted corn, peppers & onions, charred jalapeños, cotija cheese, salsa rosado) or the Yuca Verda (smashed yuca, pickled cabbage, cilantro, avocado salsa). Rounding out the menu are antojitos like Sweet Chili Jalapeno Wings; roasted corn Esquites; the Jalapeño Brisket Quesadilla (smoked brisket, onion, charred jalapeño, potato sticks, cilantro, salsa rosada) and larger plates such as the Late-Night burrito, (Mexican rice, barbacoa, carnitas, pollo asado, black bean refrito, jack cheese, potato sticks, queso, salsa rosado).

Frozen margaritas and Mexican beer are the perfect complements to the food. Head to the back lounge and enjoy a larger cocktail menu featuring a variety of margaritas, including the Spicy Sandia and Passionfruit Picante and classic cocktails such as the Bodega Paloma, Spiced Mule, and the Oaxacan Old Fashioned, all available for daily happy hours and late nights. Or, try the Cafecito shot, an homage to Bodega’s Miami roots, made with Patron Blanco, Cazadores Cafe and Owen’s Nitro Espresso.

With its amazing happy hour and daily specials that will rank among the city’s best, and seasonal patio seating options, Bodega Taqueria y Tequila will no doubt be a welcome addition to the George Washington University area. Happy hour (Monday-Friday 4-7 pm) features a selection of antojitos and well drinks and draft margaritas and beer for $3, while Taco Tuesdays are incredibly wallet-friendly, offering diners a choice of 3 clasico tacos (al pastor, pollo asado, carnitas or carne asada) for $12 or 2 dorado tacos (frito queso, yuca verde or elote y rajas) for just $5. Whether it’s happy hour or late night DJ sets, the airstream will always be open to dish out tacos, burritos and Bodega favorites until close.

“Bodega Taqueria y Tequila’s Clasico Burrito”

Bodega Taqueria y Tequila is the brainchild of Jared Galbut and Keith Menin. Launched in Miami Beach in 2014 amid the city’s art-and-culture-filled renaissance, Bodega quickly became known for crafting the best tacos and margaritas in South Florida. Following the opening of two Chicago locations, DC is the latest venture in the brand’s national expansion, with Nashville on the horizon, set to open in Summer 2025.

“The Bodega brand has established itself as a destination in Miami as well as across South Florida and Chicago over the past 10 years, and we’re thrilled to now bring our concept to Washington and make our first foray into the Northeast region,” said Jared Galbut, CEO of Bodega Taqueria y Tequila. “We want to create an experience in Foggy Bottom for each guest to feel like they’re at home—where the bartenders will know your name, and everyone is part of the family. This is more than just a place to grab a drink or a bite to eat; it’s your go-to neighborhood watering hole, welcoming locals and tourists alike into a vibrant, high-energy space. Every visit promises something unexpected from the moment you step through the door.”

Located at 2127 I St. NW, Bodega Taqueria will be open Monday – Wednesday: 11am – 12am, Thursday & Friday: 11am – 2am, Saturday: 11am – 3am, Sunday 11am – 12am.”
